Solus Volantyne is the captain of the ship Volantyne's Resolve. He is hired along with his crew by Sabetha Belacoros to serve as a watch guard over Locke Lamora and Jean Tannen during the the Five-Year Game. His ship serves as something like a luxury cruise along the Sea of Brass for Locke and Jean where they are provided with excellent meals and accommodations, with the caveat that they are prisoners against their will.
